Meet Coach Dan
Dan Crespo is the founder and head coach at Faru Performance. He is also a USATF Certified Level 1 Coach with more than two decades of experience in elite-level endurance sports spanning both cycling and ultra trail racing. His coaching focuses on preparing athletes for the unique demands of mountain events from ski mountaineering to ultra trail racing.
As an ultra trail athlete, Dan has achieved numerous top 10 results, including at the High Lonesome 100 (M6), Leadville Marathon (10th), and Westline Winder 30K (1st) in 2025 alone. Dan has clocked sub 3-hour finishes in the Pikes Peak Ascent and finished the Leadville 100 twice (with a PR of 22h 55m). He also maintains a 650+ UTMB Index Score, placing him in the top 2% of all UTMB-Indexed runners worldwide and qualified for the 2026 UTMB World Series Finals in Chamonix, FR for the 100km distance (CCC).
Dan is a former Category 1 Road and Track cyclist, having achieved numerous wins, podiums, and top results during a cycling career that spanned 200+ elite national and international races. During that time, Dan was fortunate enough to work with several leading coaches, exercise physiologists, and to train alongside some of the best professional cyclists of that time. This experience helped Dan to develop his own flexible models for training and recovery which have enabled him to consistently perform at a high level in multiple sports.
For several years, Dan has been somewhat of an “accidental coach”—a coincidence that has helped him find both purpose and fulfillment in helping others grow as athletes. Dan enjoys working with athletes across a range of ages, athletic abilities, and experience, which is what ultimately led “Coach” Dan to embrace the prefix and start Faru Performance.
